1 Peter 5:2-3 “Be shepherds of God’s flock… not lording it over those entrusted to you.”

Spiritual leadership is about being a steward, not an owner. Leaders should never manipulate, intimidate or control someone’s personal decisions. Their goal should be to help people hear from God for themselves, not make decisions for them or impose our will onto their personal lives.

Ministers should live a life that is above reproach in financial matters. Offerings and ministry resources should be managed with honesty, accountability and transparency!

1 Timothy 6:5 “Who suppose that godliness is a means of gain.”

God is not opposed to blessing His people with prosperity, abundance, or very nice possessions, but those things must never become the motive for ministry. The goal of ministry is to glorify Christ, serve others, and advance God’s Kingdom.

Matthew 23:3 “They preach, but do not practice.”

A spiritual leader should have a private life that supports their public message. Integrity is build and sustained when our conduct confirms our doctrine.

Proverbs 11:13 “A trustworthy person keeps a confidence.”

People will often open up to leaders about personal struggles. A leader should never use someoneโ€™s private information as a sermon illustration, gossip or leverage.

Even if the relationship turns sour later, integrity means you still protect what was shared in confidence and never use it as a weapon against them.

Romans 12:3 “Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought.”

Never pretend to know everything. As a leader, you should be willing to admit mistakes, seek help, and acknowledge areas where you lack skill or experience.

There is wisdom in recognizing your own limitations. Allow others with the right knowledge and gifting to help carry the responsibility.

1 Timothy 4:16 “Watch your life and doctrine closely.”

What you allow in your private life will eventually affect what you carry in your public ministry. You must continually guard yourself against compromise, pride, and hidden sin.

Remember, a minister’s greatest qualification is not gifting, charisma, or influence, but GODLY CHARACTER!
